How often have you set yourself some New Years Resolutions, only to fail at the first hurdle? You might even have got to the place where you don’t set New Year’s Resolutions because you are tired of failing all the time. What is this constant failure doing to your self-esteem and self-worth?
Why Do We Fail At Making New Year’s Resolutions?
There are many reasons why New Year’s Resolutions fail. You can make a yourself a resolution that is too high and too hard to achieve. Or, You don’t have a clear and supportive plan in place to help you reach the goal you have set. I hear too many people talk about how they feel they have failed if they don’t stick to their resolution every single day. Then they feel that they have failed full-stop. This reaffirms any subconscious scripts that you have playing in your memory around being a failure, or not being good enough.
Set Your Self One New Year’s Goal At A Time
Yes, I called the New Year’s Resolution a Goal. That’s what it is. Unfortunately, New Year’s Resolutions tend to fail because we don’t look on them as goals. We somehow think we have to reach the New Year’s Resolution from day one of the New Year.
Think about it. How unrealistic is this system? From my training as a Life Coach I tend to see that any Goal can be reached with the right plan and a positive mental attitude. When you take a goal and break it down into smaller goals before then creating even smaller very achievable steps your mental attitude towards that goal changes straight away. Once you can see that you can do it (on paper), you can begin to really believe that you can do it.
So, this year, why not try this way:
- Make One Main New Years Goal
- Set Out a Plan to Help you Reach This Goal
- Break this Mail Goal Into Smaller Goals
- Create smaller steps that will help you succeed in reaching the smaller goals
- Write out a series of actions that will help you take the steps to meeting the smaller goals
- Put dates in your diary by which you will have completed these steps
- Celebrate every single step you take as a success
This very short programme will talk you through setting your main goal for this New year. Then it will help you plan out that goal – dividing it out into smaller goals with even smaller very achievable steps.
The Secret To Success With New Year’s Resolutions or Goals
The secret to success when setting New Year’s Resolutions is to make the whole process a successful experience from day one. That is all down to the planning. The smaller the steps you take the more possible it is for you to be successful in achieving them. Success builds on success. As you meet each of your small goals you will grow in mental positive regard towards yourself and your ability to be successful in achieving these goals. You will be setting yourself up for success with every step along this process.
Success Attracts Success
Success attracts more success. Whether it is in the area of personal wellness or business success, you hold the key to making it all a success by how you plan it all out.
Stress Can Block Success When It Comes to New Year’s Resolutions
When you are stressed you tend to lose access to your logical thinking brain and all those negative subconscious thoughts and beliefs about yourself and others get centre stage. These are the thoughts that will block you from being successful in your life.
Group Support Can Help Us Reach Our New Year’s Goals
That is why I am setting up a Monthly New Year’s Resolutions Support Group. It is designed to keep you motivated even when you get stressed. I talk more about this group in the next part of the programme. It’s the type of support group that you can dip in and out of through the year. It will help to keep you motivated when you feel like giving up. It will offer you the experience of others as well as me giving you advice and some tools to help you manage and retune stresses that come your way.
When You Believe You Can – You Can
When you believe you can manage stress better you generally do manage stress better. When you feel you can’t manage stress you generally can’t. With this programme and the support group, before long you will be thinking and feeling more and more successful as you tick off your small steps once they are achieved. Then you will be ticking off the smaller goals and then it won’t be long until you are reaching your New Year’s Main Goal.
