Every year around this time, I will always ask you ‘what 1 thing will you do for your wellness?’
You may well get sick of me asking this question, but given how much stress and strain is in your life and the lives of your family members, I think it is really important that you do focus on wellness. Especially as you head into the darkest, dampest days of the year.
Stress Reactions Speak
Perhaps you had a reaction to me asking the question. Perhaps you feel you’re too busy to be answering such a question. Or you had a, ‘leave me alone, sure what would you know about my life?’ reaction. Be honest with yourself, if you had such a reaction, you really do need to do something to boost wellness. I say this because such reactions normally come from people who are already very stressed. It’s never a great idea to go into the winter time already stressed!
I’m Too Busy
When you are too busy, you are going to be too stressed. You are already in that stress response state, putting out fires for others, meeting deadlines, making meals for family, minding grandchildren, managing budgets, thinking about impending energy cost hikes and lots more besides.
Stress Prevents Wellness.
So many people in our country and world never get to realise how stressed they are until it’s too late. Stress is still the leading cause of heart attack, stroke and other major illnesses with diet and exercise coming very close behind.
Many people often would say I didn’t realise I was stressed until I had that stroke. I have heard lots of clients tell me, I’m not stressed, I’m just busy. I have said it myself and on more than one occasion too.
For me, it was a virus that taught me that I was too stressed. I was so stressed I even returned to work too soon after the virus. But a year later I was being told I had a post-viral illness state. That was nearly 25 years ago. Now I am passionate about trying to spread the message about over stressed energy systems and the need to make 1 change for wellness each autumn/winter.
Stress, The Immune System And Digestion
When you trigger a stress response you lower your immune system and can’t digest your food properly. You also trigger old negative thought patterns which then keep you in that stressed state. Poorly digested food leads to gut disease which could really cause more illness.
Promote Wellness Habits
You can turn this all around. The first step is to begin to do things each day that ease your stress levels. There are many ways to do this.
Begin With Thoughts
Did you know that your thoughts set your energy in motion. Emotions are energy in motion. Most of your thoughts are in your subconscious. They are automatic truths that you picked up and probably in childhood.
When you can ‘retune’ those thoughts, you will begin to turn down that automatic stress triggering system. Make a choice today to create a positive ‘I truly am..’ script for yourself.
A script like:
- I truly am okay
- I truly am good enough
- I truly am calm
Then put this script in places that you tend to find your eye looking, like a mirror in the bathroom, or door handle in the kitchen. Perhaps in your lunch box or handbag, or even on your phone. The more you can think this phrase, the more you can get your thinking patterns to start changing.
I use Two Meridian Tapping to help me change my subconscious scripts. The system really helps me to take a negative script and literally change it to a positive one and normally with lasting effect. You can learn more about the system in my book: Tap into Success.
Other Wellness Habits
- Go for a walk and think only positive thoughts like gratitude thoughts.
- ‘Take 5’ minutes to sit with your hands on your solar plexus area and breathe – thinking a thought like ‘I truly am blessed’ while you are breathing.
- You could decide to drink more water and think grateful thoughts while you are doing this.
- Have a worry book where you write down all the things that worry you and then close the book and Tap on a phrase like: ‘Even though I have all these worries in my head, right now I truly am okay’.
- Take a shower after work – that helps you to wash the energy of work away, so you are more able to focus on what is important to you.
- Spend some time relaxing before bed – reading is better than screen time!
- Be mindful of the amount of sugar you consume in your day
- Coffee over stimulates your energy system, less coffee helps you to regulate your energy.
Bottom Line
Bottom line – you hold the key for retuning your stressed energy to a frequency of wellness. Simple daily actions can begin this journey. Begin with just 1 thing that you can choose to do for your wellness and get doing it. Then when that has become a habit, choose something else to do..
