We are fast approaching the Autumn Equinox. This is the half way point on the journey from the longest day to the shortest day – winter solstice. We have two equinox times, one in September marking the autumn equinox, and one in March celebrating the spring equinox, when we honour the half way point between the shortest day and the longest day – summer solstice.
Equinox Is A Time Of Balance
The actual dates of the equinox times can vary slightly but generally they are around 21st of September and March. We can get caught up on the timing and quite often miss the significance of what is happening in the universe and within our own energy system.
Balance
From reflecting, many years ago, on how the seasons can be used as a metaphor for understanding and making sense of life, I grew in appreciation of what balance really is. It’s a very short space of time that you get to experience a sense of equal flow. Then you are on your way again.
Your Physical Balancing Abilities
Did you know that if you stood on your two feet in a state of balance for a prolonged length of time, you would fall over? Try it. Place your two feet hip width apart. Sway side to side for a few seconds to find your balance. the stop moving. You might also like to have the slightest bend in your knees – this helps you to stay in that position for longer.
Just stay in this balanced position for as long as you can, with no swaying, or moving. You will begin to lose your balance and fall over.
Wellness Is About Balance
As an Natural Energy Therapist, with over 20 years experience, I know only too well how important it is to have balance in your life:
- Too little exercise can leave your lymphatic system blocking up – with too much exercise fatiguing your muscles.
- Too little sleep will not allow your whole natural rhythms to reset – yet too much sleep will prevent your energy systems from having enough time be active during the day.
- Too little water will leave you dehydrated.
- Too much water going in at a time without swivelling it in your mouth will just wash through your body, quite often taking good nutrition with it, without hydrating your energy.
- Too much Sugar blocks your whole energy and puts your pancreas and adrenals under stress. I don’t think there is a too little sugar!
Striving For Balance
One of Irelands amazing Folk singers, Mary Black, sang a song once called ‘Trying To Get The Balance Right‘. This is what we all strive for. We struggle to find balance. When we do eventually get into balance, we blink and it’s gone again. This is because balance is but a fleeting moment. Monks dedicate their lives to meditation. They sit for hours focusing on stillness. Looking for that little space of time when they reach true ‘nothingness’. They are the first to day that no sooner do they realise they are in this state but it is gone again.
Somethings Are Easier To Balance Than Others
One thing that is out of balance is the time we take to pause in our day – to reflect, be grateful, count the blessings. How many hours are you very active and all go in your day? How many minutes do you give over to allowing your energy to be calm? Okay, of course there is sleep time.
But, did you know that if you go to bed hyper, dehydrated, angry or stressed, you will continue that energy state even in your sleep. That is if you even get off to sleep. Quite often something like dehydration can keep you awake for hours.
How Balanced Are You?
It might be a good idea to take some time to contemplate how balanced your day, week, life is right now. Perhaps there are some small changes you could make to help bring some balance back into your life. Attending a session or two with RetuningME™ even online can help you restore balance into your life.
You Are Doing Your Best to Reach Balance This Autumn Time
Know that all you can do is your best in any given day. When you tell yourself this – ‘I truly am doing the best I can do at this very moment’, could actually reduce your stress levels. What you are doing is telling yourself that you are indeed good enough. When you think and feel good enough, you are less likely to trigger a stress response.
Balance Before Winter
The autumn equinox has been honoured and celebrated by our ancient peoples. It is really important to take stock of how you are before you head into winter. When you head into winter, already tired, stressed with a depleted energy system, you are leaving yourself vulnerable.
Take Time To Find Balance This Equinox
Make the choice to attend to your own needs this autumn equinox. Seek to restore balance to your energy system, naturally. Reduce the time you spend on things and people that block your energy and increase the time you spend on doing things that boost your energy – in the longer run, you will be glad you made these changes.
