It’s that time of year again when the dreaded cold and flu virus are flying around the place rapidly infecting everyone that happens to innocently get in its way. Or do we innocently get in its way. Consider this train of thought. Holiday seasons like Halloween and Christmas or birthday parties are times when we eat, drink and be merry leave us more susceptible to catching the cold and flu.
Why?
Well basically because at these times we eating foods that we wouldn’t normally eat, and drink more sugary or alcoholic drinks than we normally would. We tend to see times like Christmas as ‘treat time’, so off we go and treat ourselves and all around us with sugar, sugar and more sugar!
It’s only…
I hear things like ‘It’s only for two weeks’, or sure ‘it’s only a birthday party, or ‘it was my annual holiday’! Yes it is only for two weeks. But consider this, for those two weeks you have over eaten on rich and sugary foods. You have increased your intake of sugary drinks. You have probably also upped your intake of wheat and dairy based products like chocolate and cake!!! We all do it. But just like any other aspect of life, this possibly over 200% increase in sugar products will overload your ability to digest and break down the sugar leading to a weakened immune system. This will leave you totally open and welcoming to the dreaded virus, fungus or bacteria that is doing the rounds. The blood/brain chemistry in your body gets knocked out of balance and you can get quite anxious, depressed and stressed. Christmas is a great time for triggering old emotional wounds from the past. Unresolved memories will come flooding up and again these will add to the lowering of the immune system. So if you tick some of the points above then getting a cold or flu is actually quite natural.
The Cold and Flu are Natural Detoxifiers.
The cold or flu is basically the bodies way of cleansing from all the toxins that it can’t cope with. It is like a natural detox plan. Once we get a cold or flu we can either treat it and it will last 5-7 days or allow it flow on through us and it will also take 5-7 days. If we have really allowed ourselves to get run down then it can take a lot longer than 5-7 days to clear. Quite often people get antibiotics and these can in some cases actually prolong a virus and just break down your immune system even further.
So what can you do?
There are many different views on what to do when you get a viral overload in your system. I am going to share my experience on dealing with viruses from a Kinesiology standpoint.
First thing is stay away from other humans as much as you can.
Remove the sugar and other toxins from your diet and up your intake of organic fresh fruit and vegetables. Homemade soups can be a really great food at this time.
Drink plenty of fluids and sleep. Sleep is the bodies natural way of rebooting and recharging itself.
For children I recommend taking Ionic or colloidal Silver. It comes in liquid form and tends to work will with viruses. Zinc and vitamin C would also be good to boost the immune system.
Adults could also take Silver, just take more of it. Another great fix for viruses, etc, is NAC (N-Acetyl-Cysteine), an amino acid that is very good for detoxing and boosting the immune system. The NAC will need zinc to help it work best, so again adults should take zinc and it won’t hurt to take some vitamin C. Vitamin D3 is always a good supplement to take during the winter time, to boost the immune system and a lot more beside Echinacea is a very good herb to help fight the cold and flu and Milk Thistle is good for detoxing the liver, while dandelion root cleanses the kidneys.
A Note of Caution
As a Kinesiologist, I do not recommend taking any of these supplements without first attending a kinesiology session and getting an all over balance of all your energy systems. This balance will quickly identify what foods might be overloading your system and also what nutrition or herbs you need to help you boost and balance the auto-immune system. I can put my hand on my heart and say no two people are the same and what works for one person, may not actually work for another. That is why I 100 per cent advise a trip to your local Systematic Kinesiologist as soon as you can organise an appointment. It will possibly be the best investment you can make for your health and wellbeing. I say this because I have been there, on the flat of my back with a ‘post-viral illness state’ that was not really treatable with conventional medicine. It was Kinesiology and some other therapies that helped me. You can contact your local Systematic Kinesiologist by going to https://kinesiology.ie/practitioners/ or avail of a free 20 minute call with myself and take it from there. Be warned – it can take a week or two to get an appointment. Or book your online Wellness Coaching Session at www.retuningme.com
